Portraits & Perspectives: Part One by Chris Stevens

As part of earning his MFA Acting degree, I created this solo show.

In this piece, I embody three real individuals who share perspectives on social media, democracy, and theater to demonstrate how they are all deeply linked in today’s divisive world.

I hope to continue using this framework of embodying people in portraits to create a multi-part series that comments on how other systems and ideas are linked in ways that aren’t immediately obvious.

(Portraits is a term coined by Anna Deavere Smith.)

Broadway World - Bay Area Playwright's Foundation Line-Up Announcement

“Tiger Beat follows the Girls Next Door, a pop girl group rising to fame in the early 2000's. The group's Asian American songwriter Tess finally gets a chance to sing lead, but the opportunity comes at what cost? This play with music is a coming of age story about pop stardom, 2003 fashion choices, and the pursuit of artistry on one's own terms.”
